Temples of Vesta (Temples of Hercules Victor)

patinated bronze, giallo antico marble
6-1/2″, c. 1860
7,500

Why are some souvenirs so successful?
“Of all the monuments of ancient Rome, this (Tomb of Scipio) is the one more frequently
produced in marble or bronze than any other, except perhaps the Temple of Vesta” records
Rome and Its Ruins (1866). With each model, the center, shallow, conical section of the roof
lifts away, perhaps for use as an inkwell.
