Gilded Arc de Triomphe, Paris

11-1/2″ high, 1887
gilded bronze & black marble
Remy

The most widely reproduced monument in Paris, the Arc de Triomphe is extremely rare in gilded bronze, as is work of this maker, Remy. Patterned on Rome’s Arch of Titus, the Arc may be paired with the Vendome Column, based on Trajan’s column, as evidence of Napoleon’s visions of empire.

Right:  This model includes the plaza surrounding the Arc de Triomphe, the pattern of its paving as well as the surrounding bollards and chain.

Top Left:  The base is marked Remy, 1887.
